Experiment Your Way Forward

Look around you. Things seem to be increasing in speed, complexity, and disruption. If you are anything like me, you SEE these cross-currents in full view; on full display in the world today.

What we can infer from such cross-current, patterns is that we are operating in unfamiliar territory; navigating uncharted waters. Now, why understanding this fact matters is that we can no longer rely on the past, OUR past to inform our future; that is, of what and how we should respond to challenges today. At best, we may possess a compass (of what to do) but indeed not a map.

What this implies for each of us, and the companies that employ us is that our only reliable, effective way forward is to experiment our way forward. No amount of past readings, workshops, corporate seminars, nor our own practical experience will be adequate, suitable to help our companies effectively compete in an Industry 4.0 world.

A new method is required. Fortunately, companies are starting to acknowledge this fact and responding appropriately with introducing agile methods coupled with PEARL (Plan, Experiment, Assess, Reflect, Learn) approaches to executing rapid-learning cycles. For a company to compete today and to sustain itself for the long term, it will have to embrace and implement some form of a [rapid experimentation cycle]. This is the only reliable way forward in a future where we cannot see more than 20 feet in front of us.

The world has changed. Hence, we must change. Nothing less than your company's survival is at stake.
